轉承詞
轉承詞的功能有諸多，其中一種是用來表達「轉折、讓步」。這種轉承詞可以分為兩種，一種表示「誠然、無可否認」，包括 of course、admittedly、as a matter of fact、naturally、it is true that、while it’s true … but 等；而另一種表示「儘管、縱使」，常見的例子有 though、although、regardless、in spite of、despite the fact that、certainly、even so 以及本堂課中比較少見到的 albeit，意思為「雖然，儘管」。
Example：
1. In spite of the scale of the famine, the relief workers struggled with dauntless optimism and commitment.
縱使眼前飢荒的程度很嚴峻，救援人員仍無所畏懼的樂觀及奉獻勇往直前。
2. The evening was very pleasant, albeit a little quiet.
那個夜晚過得非常愉快，儘管有點安靜。
3. Admittedly, I could have tried harder but I still don't think all this criticism is fair.
不可否認，我本來可以在努力些。但我認為這些批評也並非完全公道。
