第二類條件句
第二類條件句用於描述現在或未來不太可能發生、與當下事實相反，或婉轉的忠告。它是一種非真的、假的、想像的、不可能的假設語氣。文法結構為從屬子子句 If 子句中使用過去簡單式，主要子句則會出現助動詞 would/ should/ could 外加動詞原型。如例句 If an emergency during take-off or landing caused the lights to suddenly go out, no one's eyes would be adjusted making it harder to evacuate, especially in 90 seconds。這句屬想像的假設，因為 if 子句跟現在的事實是不符合的，沒有真正的緊急事件發生。
Example：
1. If you were nicer to him, he might lend you the money.
如果你對他好些，他可能會借你錢。（事實上你對他不好）
2. If I were a guy, I swear I'd be a better man.
如果我是男生，我發誓我會當個更好的男人。（事實上我不是）
3. If I won the lottery, I would buy a big house.
假如我中了樂透，我就會買個大房子。（事實是我沒有中）
