進階被動語態
英語中有某些動詞經常會以被動的形式出現，來表達一種「狀態」。我們也可以把這種「被動式」的動詞，想像成就是一個過去分詞作為形容詞的情況。這類的動詞像是 require、expect、marry、suppose、determine、incline，甚至包括表達情感的動詞 excite、interest、stun 等，都常以「過去分詞」或是「被動」的方式出現。舉例，Are you married, single and ready to mingle? 這一句為例，原本 marry 是「結婚」的意思，而我們慣用以被動的型態來表達這種狀態。
Example：
1. She was stunned by the amount of support she received from well-wishers.
居然有這麼多人送上祝福，他們的支持另她受寵若驚。
2. Your health is determined in part by what you eat.
在某種重度上你的健康狀況取決於你的飲食。
3. I was astonished by how much she'd grown.
她竟然長那麼高了，這讓我很驚訝。
