一般介係詞 to
有些動詞後所加上的 to，我們會視為「一般的介系詞」。就因為只是一般的介系詞，不具有不定詞的功能，因此後面所接的必須是名詞、代名詞或是動名詞等所有具有名詞屬性的詞語。常見的包含介系詞 to 的慣用語有 be used to、get accustomed to、listen to、look forward to、object to、dedicate oneself to、devote oneself to 等。後面的動詞都會以動名詞 V-ing 的形式呈現。
Example：
1. The new president said she would dedicate herself to protecting the right of the sick and the homeless.
新任總統說她將致力於保護病患和無家可歸者的權利。
2. She has devoted herself to getting justice for her son.
她致力為她的兒子伸張正義。
3. The key to becoming a successful businessman is to be patient.
成為成功商人的關鍵是有耐心。
