片語動詞
「片語動詞」由一個主要動詞配上一個副詞或介係詞，或是兩者兼具。通常片語動詞的意思無法字面上地從兩個分開來的字來看，例如 There will always be an abundance of vivid examples to back up a catastrophic interpretation of humanity， back 跟 up 兩個字分開來看，和 back up 合在一起看，意思是不一樣的，在這句中 back up 的意思是「支持」。
Example：
1. She has always looked down on me.
她總是看不起我。
2. A fight broke out among the men at the bar.
酒吧的男子突然打起來了。
3. We'll set off early tomorrow morning so that we won't be late.
