片語動詞
「片語動詞」通常是由一個動詞和一到兩個介係詞或副詞組成，所使用的介係詞或副詞可以完全改變動詞的意義，片語動詞中，動詞和搭配的介係詞或副詞通常會連在一起，但有些是可以被分開使用的。判斷片語動詞是否可分開使用的要點在於「直接受詞」，如果片語動詞搭配一個直接受詞，那麼這個片語動詞就可以分開使用。舉例子來說， "If you notice the smell, remove any source of flame from the area, turn the valve off and have your propane tank serviced," 這個句子的片語動詞 "turn off" 被分開使用，中間插入直接受詞 "the valve"。

1. Can everybody pick their artwork out from the pile in the back, please?
請大家從後面的作品堆拿回自己的，好嗎？
2. Jake is so mad! I think he's going to take the whole system on.
傑克超生氣的！ 我想他打算和整個體制槓上了。
3. Can you please bring the laundry in, because I think it's starting to rain?
