片語動詞
不同的片語動詞種類中有個類型是「片語介係動詞」，通常是指由一個動詞加上另兩個字所構成的多字動詞。像是句子： Your personality type is made up of four preferences 的 made up of 就是由「動詞＋ 副詞 ＋介系詞」所構成的。另外舉幾個例子：get on with, put up with, look forward to 都是片語介系動詞。這些是不能夠分開來使用的。Made up 另有 「說謊，捏造」的意思，可以分開使用：This is a made-up story; he is making things up.（這是個捏造的故事；他在說謊）。 另外：While extroverts tend to have lots of friends and acquaintances, … 的 tend to (片語動詞）後面會加不定詞，像是 tend to be, tend to get, tend to make an effort, 等用法。 Tend to 另有「照顧」的意思：Mother tended to her children. （媽媽照顧她的孩子們）。
Example：
1. It's hard to put up with her attitude.
容忍她的態度是很困難的。
2. She tends to be very serious most of the time.
她通常都非常嚴肅。
3. Hollywood movies tend to have a bit of racism.
