副詞型分詞構句
分詞構句常用來表達條件、理由、原因、結果、時間，這些功能其實就是以「從屬連接詞」所引導的副詞子句的功能。從屬連接詞像是 while、when、before、after、as、since、if 等。就像"They get an emotional reward when causing or observing the suffering of others" 這句，從屬連接詞可以直接銜接表示「條件」的分詞構句，注意這句省略了相同主詞 they。 通常我們在口語中不太常用這類的副詞型分詞構句因為它們很正式。然而在書寫中，我們很常使用這類句型因為它們可以幫助精簡化句子。
Example：
1. Before being changed last year, the speed limit was 70 Kph.
在去年修改之前，時速限制是70公里。
2. I simply can't afford a holiday after spending so much money on the car.
在我花這麼多錢在我的新車上後，我無法負擔假期所需要的費用。
3. While understanding her problem, I have no idea how I can help.
