名詞子句
what 與 whatever 這兩個代名詞所帶領的名詞子句，而名詞子句在一個句子裡面佔著一個「名詞會出現的位置」，通常可以被另一個名詞或是代名詞「取代」。例如 "Normal is whatever you make it on public transport."，其中 whatever you make it 這個名詞子句就可以用代名詞 something 取代，它在一個「補語」的位置。通常 what 與 whatever 連接名詞子句時，他們可以分別被 "the thing that" 與 "anything that" 取代。
Example：
1. Do whatever you want. It won't affect me.
你想做什麼就做什麼吧。不會影響到我的。
2. The letter showed clearly what they were planning.
這封信件清楚地說明他們之前的計畫。
3. I have no idea what he said in the meeting.
我完全不知道他在會議中說了什麼。
