情態助動詞 - Would
Would 這個助動詞除了可以單純指 will 的過去式，也有「非過去」的意涵。本課我們就有兩個例子。首先 would 有 used to express an opinion in a polite way without being forceful 的意思，也就是可以委婉地、禮貌地表明觀點，如本 I would (have to) say...。再來， would 也可以是 used for talking about things that often happened in the past 的意思，此時等同 used to，用來表達「過去的習慣」。我們再看看下方的例句，熟悉一下 would 的用法。
Example：
1. I would think we need to speak to the headteacher about this first.
我想，我們需要先去問問校長有關這事件的意見。
2. When my parents were away, my grandmother would take care of me.
以前當我的爸媽出遠門時，我阿嬤就會照顧我。
3. They knew there would be trouble unless the report was finished by the next day.
他們知道，除非第二天能完成報告，否則就有麻煩了。
