表狀態改變的動詞
英語屬於西日耳曼語系，包含德語、荷蘭語等，而現代的英語中仍保有部分日耳曼語系的語言特性。今天要說的一種動詞類型就擁有這種特性。英語中有部分的動詞以 -en 結尾，通常這種以 -en 結尾的動詞標示了這個動詞的屬性，這類動詞通常可以標示主詞「狀態的變化」。例如 lighten、weaken、strengthen、darken 等，它們的意思其實就是 become light、become weak/ make sth weak、make something strong、become dark/ make something dark。
Example：
1. They have been strengthening their border defenses in preparation for war.
他們一直在為備戰而強化邊防˙。
2. I don't understand this. Could you enlighten me?
這個我不懂，你能為我解釋一下嗎？
3. As the company's financial problems worsened, several directors resigned.
由於公司財務惡化，幾位經理辭職了。
