轉品
英文裡有許多字，可以同時包含多種詞性，部分原因是由於「節省造新字的成本」。這種可以「轉品」的英文字，舉例 style 與 brush。其他能帶有多種詞性的的常見字如下：close、light、better、clean、well、move、test、place、witness 等。以下就舉 close 為例。
Example：
1. The banks had closed to customers so I couldn't get any money out.
銀行關門了，所以我取不了錢。（動詞）
2. They're a worrying political party because of their close ties with terrorist groups.
這個政黨令人擔憂，因為他們與恐怖組織有密切聯繫。（形容詞）
3. I tried to bring the conversation to a close.
我試著結束這次的談話。（名詞）
