◇ Compare and Contrast
比較句型
除了我們一般所熟知的「表達比較的片語」，例如 by contrast、compared with、in comparison to 等，有些單字也可以達到相同比較的效果，縱使沒有 compare 或 contrast 這兩個關鍵字。例如：whereas、while、unlike、as opposed to、conversely、similarly、likewise、different from 等。須格外注意，while 在這個情境下並不是「在…的時候；與…同時」的意思。
Example：
1. Walnut is a hardwood, while pine is soft.
胡桃木的質地比較硬，而松木比較軟。
2. The village fete went well, unlike the previous year when very few came.
村里今年的義賣園遊會滿順利的，
3. He must be about 60, whereas his wife looks about 30.
他肯定有六十歲左右了，可是他的妻子看起來卻只有30歲。
