比較句型
今天要介紹的是英文中的轉折詞。像是 However, Nonetheless, Nevertheless, whereas, while, 等等詞彙，都是表達「但是；然而；與之相對的是…」的意思。當這類的詞出現時，就代表說話者想要提出一個跟先前敘述不同的立場。像是例句： However, the Earth prevents the solar wind from traveling straight into the planet by setting up a detour, the magnetosphere. （然而，地球在磁層的幫助下使這些帶電粒子繞道。）However 一字常用於句首，且後面會加逗點。而另一個例句 Excited oxygen atoms are responsible for the green and red colors, whereas excited nitrogen atoms produce blue and deep red hues. （被激發的氧原子呈現出紅色和綠色，而被激發的氮原子則產生藍色和深紅色的色調。）則使用了 whereas，這個字常用於比較兩個不同標的。性質一樣是被激發的原子，也都會產生顏色，但因為顏色不同，所以這裡用 whereas 對比兩者。

這是問題的其中一個解決辦法，但還有其他的方法。
2. You eat a huge plate of food for lunch, whereas I have just a sandwich.
