不可數名詞的複數形
有些不可數名詞可以用複數型來表達「種類」、「類型」。舉例來說， communication 通常是單數，不加 s， "The toxins in snake venom attach to chemical receptors in their victims and block communications between nerves and muscle," 講者是想指出生物體內的神經與肌肉的「溝通」，所以才加上 s。這裡 communications 意思「溝通系統」，而並不是指訊息的數量。Communications 也可以指「通訊」，例如 "A communications company offers various communication services, including telephone, cell phone, email, fax, etc."（一家通訊公司可以提供不同的通訊服務，從市話、手機、電子郵件和傳真，等。），其中的 communications 就是泛指通訊，亦即公司涵蓋的業務範圍。
