 ◇ 用 may as well 給予建議


  may as well 與 might as well 兩者都可用來表示「給予建議」,中文是「最好;還是...好了;倒不如;寧願」的意思。假如在一個沒有更好的替代方案的情況下,可以用它們來表示我們認為最簡單或是最符合邏輯的行動、行為是什麼。它們都屬於較不正式的用法。另外,may as well 還能用來表示一件假設的事情就好像真的發生了一樣,中文類似於「跟...沒兩樣」。注意,這兩種用法中,may as well 都傳達了一種,「倒不如,或是最快最直接的方式」的概念。



 Example:


1. We don't know anyone here and they're discussing stuff that doesn't concern us. We might as well leave.

  我們在這裡一個人都不認識,而且他們也在討論與我們無關的事。我們還不如離開。


2. I think if it's a choice between a job and a place at college, you may as well take the job. At least you'll earn some money.

  我想假如你是要在一份工作與大學學歷之間做選擇,你最好是選擇工作,至少你能賺一點錢。


3. The road was open again, but may as well have remained closed; such were the delays.

  這條道路重新開啟了,但不如維持關閉吧,都已經延遲那麼久了。
